CUBES
2018 – 2025

2018 – 2025
CUBES is a long-term photographic series created between 2018 and 2025. Consisting of 27 interconnected images across three chapters, the project is based on hand-built miniature sets that were carefully staged and photographed.
Across its development, CUBES explores recurring questions of human existence – from individual isolation and shared experience, to historical repetition and the evolving relationship between humans and technology.

CUBES I (2018–2020) examines individual yet archetypal human universes. Set within nine cubic rooms, the series reflects on experiences of isolation, disconnect, and coexistence in contemporary life.
Each room functions as a self-contained microcosm, suggesting how people may feel enclosed within their own personal spaces while remaining fundamentally connected to others.

CUBES II (2020–2023) explores the interconnectedness of humankind through the lens of recurring historical patterns. The series consists of nine images, each drawing inspiration from a different period of history.
Within identically shaped rooms, architectural elements from notable historical buildings as well as references to significant events are reinterpreted, suggesting how certain structures, conflicts, and dynamics resurface over time.

Set within a fictional environment – a rotating space station called Helios-9 – CUBES III (2023–2025) explores the relationship between technology and the human being.
Rather than focusing on technology as a visual motif, CUBES III addresses broader questions of agency, control, and responsibility in a present shaped by increasingly autonomous systems and artificial intelligence.

In CUBES, each room was constructed as a miniature set, carefully lit and photographed. The building process combines traditional crafting techniques with contemporary technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting.
All models were photographed individually and later integrated into the final sceneries. No generative AI was used to create the images. For more information, take a look at the …
