Seb turned from commercial photography and post-production to free, conceptual work in 2013. The series GOLD grew out of his interest in photomontage – combining separately photographed figures and landscapes – and it was here, building the snowscapes for Evergold, that he made his first miniature sets. Those possibilities carried into BIRDS, which incorporated small-scale scenery, including a roughly 40 cm birdcage.
With a background in CGI, he briefly replaced built sets with computer-generated environments in Hot Wine and Cool Champagne – but concluded that, for all its freedom, the digital approach lacked lasting visual authenticity. He returned to physical sets and minimal post-production, and that decision still defines his work today.
Limited edition artworks of these series can be purchased in the Print Shop.
